Following the Oscars’ notable snub of Barbie director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie, Hollywood personalities took to social media to express their reactions.

John Stamos added a humorous touch to the situation by sharing a video on Instagram featuring his wife Caitlin McHugh mimicking the voices of Robbie’s Barbie and Ryan Gosling’s Ken from the film. Stamos acknowledged Gerwig and Robbie’s achievement in crafting a critically acclaimed and culturally significant film that explored feminist themes through the Barbie lens, challenging patriarchal norms. Despite the movie’s profound impact and massive box office success, both women were surprisingly overlooked by the Academy.

Simu Liu, who portrayed Ken in the Barbie film, shared his thoughts on the snub, emphasizing the challenges Gerwig and Robbie faced in bringing Barbie to life. He praised their efforts in starting a movement that touched the world and reinvigorated cinema, expressing his belief that they deserve every accolade.

During an appearance on the Today show, Michelle Yeoh addressed the snubs, acknowledging the mix of joy and disappointment that often accompanies such situations. Yeoh highlighted the competitiveness in the industry and the uncertainty that arises due to the wide array of voters. Despite the film earning a nomination for Best Picture, Yeoh questioned how it could be recognized in that category while missing out on nominations for Best Director and Best Actress.

While Gerwig and Robbie were absent from the Best Director and Best Actress categories, they did secure nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay (Gerwig) and Best Picture (Robbie as one of the film’s producers). Yeoh expressed her sympathy for the oversight, emphasizing the movie’s undeniable success and popularity at the box office.
