Controversial right-wing commentator Candace Owens and the Daily Wire have ended their relationship. Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, without providing specific details about the circumstances of their split.
Owens, who had joined the Daily Wire in 2021 and hosted a weekday commentary show on the platform, confirmed the news on her own social media. She expressed her freedom from the partnership and hinted at future announcements to come, encouraging her followers to visit her website or make donations to support her work.
Reports suggest that Owens’ departure came after tensions with Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro over Owens’ promotion of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. Owens had been vocal about her criticism of Israel’s military response in Gaza following the Hamas attacks in October, leading to clashes with Shapiro who is a supporter of Israel.
Throughout her time at the Daily Wire, Owens faced backlash for delivering commentary perceived as anti-Semitic, including comments about Jews in Hollywood and perpetuation of conspiracy theories about Jewish people. She has also faced criticism from the Anti-Defamation League and white supremacist Nick Fuentes for her views.
In response to the situation, Owens defended herself and dismissed the criticisms by the ADL, emphasizing her beliefs and intentions. She also addressed the issue of her departure on a talk show, highlighting differences with Shapiro over emotional attachments to certain places and the impact on their reactions to issues such as Israel and Palestine.
Owens’ show on the Daily Wire, which featured commentary on political and cultural issues, was known for its bold takes and investigations into current topics. The show aired Monday through Friday at 2PM CT on the website.
